At Laredo Orthodontics, we’re always striving to provide our patients with the latest in orthodontic technology. When you stop by to see your orthodontist in Zapata and Laredo, you’ll be treated to the latest in cutting-edge technology as a way to increase your convenience and comfort when going through the orthodontic process. One of these great new orthodontic treatments that our orthodontists, Dr. Patrick Moore and Dr. Andrea Font, are glad to offer you is Invisalign.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a great new way to straighten your smile in a much more discreet manner. Unlike braces that use wires and brackets to shift teeth, Invisalign uses clear, removable aligners to gradually move teeth. They work in a similar way to braces, only they offer plenty of additional advantages.

The Advantages of Invisalign

Invisalign offers many advantages over traditional methods of orthodontics, such as metal braces. Just a sample of the many benefits that they can provide are as follows:

  • Perhaps most importantly, the aligners are clear and are virtually invisible when a patient is wearing them; others will have no idea that you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment!
  • Invisalign is removable, meaning that you won’t have to worry about cleaning around your braces’ brackets and wires; simply remove the aligners and clean your teeth like normal.
  • You also won’t need to avoid any of your favorite foods as you’ll just take the aligners out before you eat.
  • Invisalign is very durable and much less likely to break when compared to braces, meaning that you won’t have to visit your Laredo and Zapata orthodontist as often for maintenance.
  • Invisalign’s aligners are made of polyurethane plastic and provide more comfort than the metal brackets and wires of traditional braces.

The Invisalign Process

Invisalign utilizes a simple process that follows these steps:

  • First, you’ll have to visit your orthodontist in Laredo and Zapata to make sure that you’re a candidate for Invisalign. Not all patients are suitable for Invisalign and it’s not intended for children or teenagers.
  • If you’re a candidate, your Laredo and Zapata orthodontist will use iTero Element to capture digital images and impressions of your teeth.
  • Invisalign will then translate this information into a series of finely-calibrated aligners, which can be anywhere from 12 to 48.
  • You’ll wear the first set of aligners for about two weeks, making sure to keep them in for approximately 22 hours a day, only taking them out to eat, clean your teeth, or special occasions.
  • After the two weeks are up, you’ll then wear the next set of aligners, continuing in a designated order.
  • After you’ve gone through every set of aligners, you’ll have achieved your new and beautiful smile as prescribed by your Laredo and Zapata orthodontist!
